Description
The skin-pass or wire drawing operation is the second step in the field of forming. The lubricant used must operate in synergy with the surface treatment upstream and finally the forming oils used downstream. It is a key passage in the manufacture of difficult technical parts.
The lubricants commonly used are dry lubricants, called soaps. During the wire drawing operation, the passage through the die generates the formation of a plastic lubricating film that is resistant to pressure. The mastery of these lubricants is essential, to limit interactions with the forming oil and the machine. The most commonly observed adverse effects are:
- Increase in the oil viscosity and the frequency of oil changes
- Holding of particles in suspension, increase in abrasion
- Reduced lifetime for tools
CONDAT's strategy is to optimise the performance of cold heading oils by offering the associated range of dry lubricants.
Discover EXTRUGLISS WD : a range of soaps intended for skin-pass or wire drawing operations before cold forming. Their enhanced compatibility with cold-forming oils increases the lifetime of baths
Product benefits
- Better resistance of the lubricant film to temperature and to shearing
- Reduction in residues on the wire
- Good compatibility with the oils, reduction in swelling of the soaps
- Reduction in deposits on the machines, no risk of fire
- Spacing out of oil changes, therefore reduction in waste volumes
Compatibility
By improving the compatibility between wire drawing soaps and cold heading oil, the oil change frequency is better spaced out. The lifetime of the forming oil can be multiplied by 2, to reach more than 1500 hours of operation.
Example of reduction in waste volumes:
